Can This Action Camera Be Better Than The GoPro? The Nexgadget Explorer 5 H9 Action Cam Review

Thursday, February 23rd, 2017

As with all action cams everyone wants to know how they stack up against the current king of the hill the GoPro Hero 5 Black Edition. So we will take a look at image quality, included accessories, basic feature set, ease of use and price.

Included accessories: Both cameras come with housing the H9 comes with dive house and the GoPro comes with the frame. The GoPro is waterproof without housing so you only need the special dive housing if your activity calls for it.
The H9 comes with an additional battery while the GoPro only comes with one battery and you are going to need an extra battery because shooting in 4K is a serious battery drain. The H9 comes with a remote and the GoPro does not. You can buy one but it’s not included.
Basic Feature Set: Both cameras shoot in 4K but the GoPro shoots at both 30fps and 24fps while Nexgadget H9 only shoots 4K at 25fps. Both Cameras have WiFi connectivity with apps for iOS and Android but I had all kinds of trouble trying to stay connected and reconnect to the H9 while the GoPro just worked. I also had a lot of trouble with the H9 freezing up on me while trying to use WiFi and having to take the battery out to get the camera working again.
The H9 has resolutions that range from 25fps through 120fps but the 120fps means you have to drop the resolution to 720p with the GoPro you can go from 24fps all the way to 240fps but at 240fps you have to drop the resolution down to 720p but you can shoot 120fps at full HD 1080p. The H9 in this category is one step behind in frame rates and resolutions.
The H9 is definitely missing couple of features of the GoPro Hero 5 Black Edition one being image stabilization. The GoPro has it the H9 does not. Both cameras have two inch LCD screens but the GoPro has a touchscreen making it very easy to navigate through the menu.
This leads us right into ease of use. Both cameras have LCD screens and connect to apps via wifi however the GoPro’s touchscreen makes using the GoPro a breeze. On the other hand the H9 comes with a remote so while you may be missing a touchscreen you gain a remote.
Finally, the biggest difference between the two cameras is the price. The Nexgadget Explorer 5 is $79.99 while the GoPro Hero 5 is $395. The Explorer 5 seems to be a step behind the GoPro Hero 5 Black Edition in almost every way but that’s it one step not two or three and so you have to ask is the GoPro worth an additional $320 for a mostly minor features bump. Besides the touchscreen and image stabilization most people can do without the high end of the GoPro feature set.

The Best GoPro Ever Made The GoPro Hero 5 Black Edition Review

Thursday, February 16th, 2017

Good: Its waterproof without the need for housing. You can just turn it on and use it.
Good: It has built-in image stabilization so you can get rid of some of that shaky cam look.
Good: The GoPro Hero 5 has the LCD screen build into the camera so you don’t have to buy an add-on accessory. It also makes it very easy to compose your shots.
Good: The LCD screen is a touch screen that allows you to quickly and easily adjust the camera’s settings.
Good: GoPro dropped the price and made the camera more affordable and accessible by bringing the price of the Black Edition to down from $499 of the GoPro Hero 4 Black Edition to $399 for the GoPro Hero 5 Black Edition.
Bad: The image stabilization doesn’t work when shooting 4K
Bad: When shooting 4K you only have the option to shot in wide and super wide. You can’t use the linear setting shooting 4K.
In conclusion if you already have a GoPro Hero 4+ Black Edition should you upgrade? maybe but if you have any older models then this upgrade is a no brainer. I am coming from GoPro Hero 3 Black Edition so the Hero 5 is a significant upgrade in both image quality and features.

Camalapse Mobile Make Beautiful Smartphone Timelapses

Saturday, February 11th, 2017

Good: No batteries needed. You can take the Camalapse anywhere and use it anytime without having to worry about having enough power because it doesn’t use any.
Good: The mount opens up wide to accommodate phones of different levels of thickness and this means you can use the Camalapse with whatever case you currently have.
Good: The device has time intervals clearly marked so you can choose times in 15 minute increments through a complete hour. You can also choose times in between those times but it’s a guess at the exact time because only 15 minute intervals are marked.
Good: The 15 minute increment markings also measure degrees 15 minutes equals 90 degrees 30=180 degrees and so on to the hour and 360 degree mark.
Bad: There is no tripod mount on the bottom like the original Camalapse. So if you want to mount the camalapse mobile you can’t at least not on a tripod.

Filmic Pro The Best Professional Video Camera App For Android

Thursday, January 19th, 2017

Good: It provides much more control over exposure and focusing than the stock app.

Good: Filmic allows for different presets so you can have settings for different situations ready to go at the push of a button.

Good: Filmic has special settings to allow for hardware addons like external lens to be used.

Bad: I have had a lot of trouble getting the presets to stick. When I shoot a video clip and then back out of the app and when I go back into the app my settings are back to the system defaults and not the last preset used.

I will say that there are things I don’t like about Filmic Pro on Android but it is by far the best camera app for Android devices I have tried.

But, how does it sound well lets listen together and find out. Please leave a comment and let me know if you hear any difference between the two setups.

Soft Digits GoPro Accessories Kit Review

Friday, December 23rd, 2016

Good: It come with a case. GoPro kits have lots of small pieces and it’s easy to lose track of stuff but with this case you can better keep everything in one place.

Good: The kit has a ton of stuff in it. There are all kinds of mounts from a floaty handle to a chest mounts to a head mount. There is even a selfie stick.

Good: The price, the price was low when I ordered mine and now it’s even lower with a promotion code you can get this kit for only $6.99 right now.

Bad: I thought the case was big enough to fit everything thing in there but the case is actually really small and doesn’t even have a cutout for the actual GoPro.
Get The Kit For A Promotional Price of $6.99 by using the following link and code.

Make The Sky Move With The Brinno TLC200 Pro Time Lapse Camera: Review and iPhone 6 Plus Comparison

Tuesday, November 22nd, 2016

Good: The TLC 200 Pro is small. Its smaller than an iPhone and small enough to fit in the pocket of cargo pants. This is important because it means this camera is very portable and more likely you will take the camera with you use it.

Good: The lens angle moves up and down so once you have the camera mounted and level you can adjust the view of the lens without actually moving the camera.

Good: The TLC 200 Pro lets you set the frame intervals anywhere from one frame a second to one frame every 24 hours.

Good: The camera come with batteries and a SD card so you have everything you need to start shooting right out of the box.

Bad: The camera outputs an AVI file which is not the most friendly file format especially for editing.

Bad: The camera only shoots 720p which is technically HD but barely. My Cellphone actually shoots higher quality time lapse videos but with the TLC 200 Pro I have infinitely more control over the settings.

Bottomline the Brinno TLC Pro Time Lapse Camera is a decent little camera that makes shooting time lapse video a breeze but also has enough control to open up the possibility to shoot more complex time lapses. Although I would like to see this camera with full HD if you are looking for a dedicated time lapse camera then this is definitely worth your consideration.
